I also agree with instant tutor/Topping/sacking Elder with reservations to change/change/block. I make certain to not extend that privilege to hidden search, though, as EDH is far too of an answer-heavy format to know with any degree of certainty whether that card your opponent searched for dealt with your threat, or if it was just coincidence. I agree with the general consensus of saving search & reveals until after you're done with the turn (acting as if you had them in hand until that point). Then really regardless of what you pick the next player will almost undoubtedly think you picked it in response to what they played, so if someone is going to play something backbreaking waiting is best! Then while you're in the middle of stifling through your cards someone plays an avenger of zendikar or something. The only trouble you run into is when you cast a demonic tutor, do something else, pass the turn and start looking. Sure it's a little out of order, but it certainly helps speed things up. I'll go get my land now." Or during my turn if I play any sort of wood elves type creature, or hell even demonic tutor I'll generally take the rest of my turn (as long as it doesn't require drawing cards) and then tutor at the end of my turn. If I have a sakura tribe out and I pass the turn, I generally just say "I'm chump blocking with this if anyone swings at me and then saccing.
Also asking people to during someone elses turn really helps. Having a time limit on turns is definitely helpful. Save sweepers for that panic-button moment and otherwise let the game play out. It would be like speed I would get flayed alive for this That is a good solution as well. The time clock on turns is a great idea! It may make for less then optimal decisions, but that should only add to the fun. Our play group is terrible at this.Īh, the impetuousness of youth. Funny thing is the one most vocal about the games taking a long time is the 12 year old who borrows my decks. Most of my turns take less than 15 seconds except for maybe those few long 2-3 minutes ones.
I am extremely efficient but might go through 20 cards in a turn.
I try to have my turns last less than 3 minutes. We've imposed a 3 minute turn limit cause he's look at his stuff for 3 minutes and not play anything. One doesn't know the game, and the other just (no idea why) takes a long time.
I then ramped for 1 and got hit with the artisan Kozilek next turn losing two lands.) One my my friend's brother who insists on playing, and essentially uses MY ultra johnny decks terribly, drops cards, gets sleeves sticky and gives his brother two decks (I played massacre wurm, killing his 2 spite bellows (Using my Riku Deck) and someone's 12 2/2 flying tokens, I tried to tell him to use the damage to kill the older brother's Artisan of Kozilek, cause he was a big threat and was one of the two creatures left on the board (with my wurm who I said I was intending to sac to my primal growth as I was land screwed) his bro goes NOO HE KILLED YOUR DUDES! (and the other guy's 12 tokens but shh) he'll attack you with his 6/5, he chose to kill my wurm. My other group are 5, 3 of us take long turns. One (3 players) has two players that can take long turns (me and my friend's brother, he takes forever and always rereads his cards.
